County Burn Plant to close in Layton. Garbage rates will not increase.

The Davis County Energy Recovery Facility, also known as the "Burn Plant" will be closing its doors on May 31, 2017 after 30 years of operation.  It is being closed in response to several converging factors which will increase the cost to operate the facility dramatically.  Those factors include the increasing cost of maintaining an aging facility, rising cost of materials, the cost of additional pollution control equipment, as well as a reduced interest from HAFB for continued purchase of steam.  Plans to replace this facility include the construction of a transfer station coupled with a mixed waste processing facility which will remove valuable resources from the waste before it is transferred to a regional landfill.

We wish to thank the employees of the Energy Recovery Facility for their hard work.
